Clerk attacked by mob during robbery at 7-Eleven in Anaheim, police say
A 7-Eleven clerk who was attacked by a group of nearly 50 people as they ransacked the Anaheim store early Sunday morning, was back to work Monday, shaken but said he has to work.
It happened at around 1:30 a.m. at the convenience store located in the 500 block of S. Knott Avenue, according to the Anaheim Police Department.
Officers were already headed to the area after learning of a street takeover at the intersection of Knott Avenue and Orange Avenue when they also received reports of a robbery at the same location.
Despite this, it took officers a while to get to the store because of the traffic caused by the sideshow and by the time they arrived the suspects had fled from the area, APD's statement said.
Video from the scene that went viral on social media shows the group ransacking the store, climbing onto counters and pushing shelves over. The clerk said they stole about $300 cash, lottery tickets, cigarettes and other merchandise.
The clerk initially tried to hold back a couple of the suspects with a broom as they entered the store with a rock, threatening him. Video shows one suspect wearing a gray hoodie with a large rock, holding the clerk back to allow the crowd entry.
Monday morning, the clerk shared pictures of his bloody nose from the attack and referred to being kicked on various parts of his body.
A nearby donut shop owner said he had to change the way he does business and stop selling lottery tickets because criminals were breaking in to steal them."We do this for the family and our future … we just ask you to please stop doing this to us and any other 7-Eleven, to any donut shop."
No information is available on any suspects involved in the incident as police continue their investigation.
