Classes Canceled After Power Outage At Glendale College

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — Students and faculty at Glendale Community College were left in the dark Friday after a transformer malfunction cut power to the entire campus and hundreds of neighboring residents.

The outage began around 9:00 a.m. and was blamed on "electrical equipment failure", according to Glendale Police spokesman Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

Maintenance workers with Glendale Water & Power were on campus to lend the college equipment to restore power, Lorenz said.

As many as 800 nearby residents were briefly without power before it was restored around 9:11 a.m., according to Water & Power officials.

Classes were cancelled for the remainder of the day Friday.

A decision regarding classes on Saturday will be made after 10 p.m. and posted on Glendale Community College's Twitter page and the El Vaquero website.
