City Of Bell On Course For Debt Of $2.2 Million
BELL (CBS) — The fiscal woes brought on by scandals and sky-high salaries are continuing in Bell as a new audit says the Los Angeles-area city may soon have trouble even providing basic services for its residents.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the audit released Thursday says if the city continues spending as it has it will end up $2.2 million in debt at the end of this fiscal year.
The audit requested and paid for by LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina recommends laying off public employees, cutting city services and possibly disbanding the Bell Police Department.
Bell's interim chief administrative officer Pedro Carrillo tells the Times that the city is considering all options, including bankruptcy, to balance its budget.
