City Council Unanimously Picks New LADWP General Manager
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles City Council has approved a new general manager to lead the Department of Water and Power, which is plagued by costly computer problems and questions about missing money.
Marcie Edwards, former city manager of Anaheim, was unanimously confirmed on Friday. She is the first woman to hold the top post at the nation's largest municipal utility with 8,800 employees.
Edwards previously worked at the DWP for 24 years.
Edwards has said one of her top priorities is to improve customer service and resolve billing issues after the rollout of a flawed $162 million computerized billing system. The utility, with an operating budget of $5.5 billion, also is being audited over $40 million unaccounted for by two affiliated nonprofit institutes.
