City Council Offers $50K Reward To Help Catch Brentwood Arsonist
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Los Angeles City Council approved a $50,000 reward Tuesday for information leading to the conviction of whoever set a fire that spread to seven buildings and caused millions of dollars damage in Brentwood.
The fire started in an under-construction, six-unit building, just south of the Brentwood Country Club, at 12315 W. Gorham Ave. about 3:35 a.m. Thursday. Fire investigators would not say what led them to believe it was arson.
The blaze destroyed the under-construction building, and seven buildings and seven vehicles were damaged by the time firefighters had the blaze out. More than 120 people were evacuated from their homes in the middle of the night.
Most of the residents are back in their homes.
Three people were permanently displaced by the fire, officials said.
"Based on a thorough scene processing by a team of investigators, they came up with the conclusion that it was an arson fire," David Liske, an arson investigator, said. "The door is wide open as to who we want to look for."
Liske said the blaze was the only one the arsonist was suspected of starting.
Anyone with more information about the cause of the fire was urged to call arson investigators at (213) 893-9850 or email LAFD@lacity.org.
