City Council Approves Plan For Free Wi-Fi At LAX
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The City Council has approved a plan to offer free Wi-Fi at Los Angeles International Airport, starting in mid-July.
The new service, which will be up and running July 16, will require travelers to see a 15- to 30-second advertisement before they're able to access 45 minutes of free Wi-Fi.
The council voted 11-1 in favor of hiring Florida-based Advanced Wireless Group LLC without considering bids from other wireless Internet providers. The council also requested an audit of how airport officials selected AWG, which provides Wi-Fi at airports in Miami, Boston and, soon, San Francisco.
The contract with AWG is estimated at between $600,000 and $800,000.
