LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City prosecutors are teaming up with the LAPD to to help property owners and real estate agents comply with a voter-approved measure regulating medical marijuana dispensaries.

Since the citywide pot shop ban took effect July 20, Feuer has opened at least 68 cases against business and property owners. He also has secured an injunction against real estate brokers and a sales person involved in a planned medical marijuana dispensary in Mar Vista.

But despite the efforts, Feuer concedes that hundreds of illegal marijuana shops remain open.

"Now we're taking this to another level and reaching out to Southland realtors to assure that they successfully apprise realtors and landlords about the rule," he said.

The City Attorney's Office has distributed a brochure on Prop D and is working with the Southland Regional Association of Realtors and other trade groups to educate the industry on its responsibilities.

Violators of the voter-approved ban face misdemeanor charges that carry penalties of up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail.
