CicLAvia Returns To City Streets On Sunday
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Bicyclists and walkers will have exclusive access to 10 miles of streets from Echo Park to East Los Angeles during Sunday's CicLAvia-Heart of L.A. street festival.
For the 10th edition of CicLAvia, the route starts at the East Los Angeles Civic Center, just east of the 710 Freeway, and will also include hubs at Chinatown, the Theater District on Broadway, Mariachi Plaza, and Cinco Puntos, in addition to Echo Park. Each of those hubs will have water fountains so participants can stay hydrated in the heat, expected to reach the high-90s. Food will be offered at each hub, along with activity stations, and there will be music at some locations.
The festival takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with an opening ceremony set for 8:30 a.m. at the Cinco Puntos hub at Cesar Chavez Avenue and North Indiana Street. Guests at the ceremony will include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina, who are members of the Metro Board of Directors, which set aside $4 million in transportation funds for the festival.
Major streets that will be closed to car traffic on Sunday include Cesar Chavez Avenue, Mednik Avenue, Fourth Street, Second Street, Broadway and Glendale Boulevard.
