CicLAvia Festival Comes To South Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was a car-free day in South LA.
Some ten miles of streets in neighborhoods of southeast Los Angeles were closed to motor vehicles Sunday as the city's latest celebration of the CicLAvia festival opens the lanes to cyclists.
The route stretches through Huntington Park, Walnut Park, South Gate, Florence-Firestone, Lynwood and Watts.
Despite some drizzle and gray skies, thousands of cyclists, skaters and pedestrians are expected to participate in CicLAvia, modeled on a weekly car-free event started in Bogota, Colombia. It came to LA in 2010.
Food trucks, musical performers and neighborhood guides are set up along the route. The streets will be closed to cars until 4 p.m.
Previous routes have gone through South Los Angeles, downtown and along Wilshire Boulevard.
