Christie To GOP: Brown A 'Bad Choice', California Should Be Like Jersey

TAMPA (CBSLA.com) — Tropical Storm Isaac isn't the only lashing going on in storm-soaked Florida on Monday.

KNX 1070's Jon Baird reports California Governor Jerry Brown was the target of a breakfast meeting at the Republican National Convention.

New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie told the California delegation at a beachfront hotel that voters made a big mistake putting Brown back in office.

"California made a bad choice by going with an old retread," said Christie. "I cannot believe you people elected Jerry Brown over Meg Whitman."

Christie — who previously raised money for Whitman — told the delegates that New Jersey and California Republicans have a lot in common, both coming from traditional "blue states" where their politics are often dismissed by the majority of Democratic voters.

Christie's speech left GOP delegates like Luis Alvarado from Los Angeles pumped up and ready for the convention that will culminate in the nomination of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee for President.

"Very inspiring, energetic, effervescent, I could go on and on," said Alvarado.

Governor Christie is scheduled to give the keynote address at the convention this week.
