Judge Revokes Chris Brown's Felony Probation
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A judge revoked singer Chris Brown's felony probation Monday, opening the singer to possible jail time.
County prosecutors filed paperwork to revoke the 24-year-old's probation, which stems from a 2009 domestic abuse conviction involving his ex-girlfriend, Rihanna.
The action comes as Brown faces misdemeanor charges of hit-and-run and driving without a license in connection with a May 21 accident near Toluca Lake.
Brown allegedly rear-ended a Mercedes, refused to give the other driver his license and provided her with fake insurance information before leaving the scene.
The victim described an outburst by Brown, who had a female passenger with him at the scene, in a statement to police.
"The guy seemed to be [getting] nervous," the statement reads. "I realized that something is wrong and snapped a picture of them just in case. And then they went ballistic."
The victim said Brown tried to grab her camera and shouted expletives at her. He later accused her of wanting money in a rant on Twitter.
Before appearing in court Monday morning, Brown took to Twitter to defend himself.
Brown later tweeted to his fans, thanking them for their support.
After pleading guilty in 2009, Brown was sentenced to five years' probation, which requires him to obey all laws.
The singer was also sentenced to domestic violence counseling and 180 days of community service, which is in question.
According to court documents, while he was supposed to be completing his community service in Virginia, Brown was on vacation in Mexico at one point and, in another instance, was at a charity event in another state.
Mark Garagos, Brown's attorney, has said that the D.A. is torturing his client.
The singer, who was released on his own recognizance, could be sentenced to four years behind bars. He is due back in court for a probation violation hearing August 16.
