Driver, Passenger Taken Into Custody After Leading Officers On Pursuit From Monrovia To Ontario
ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — The driver of a white pickup led authorities on a back-and-forth chase that reached speeds topping 100 mph on the Foothill (210) Freeway and stretched from Monrovia to Ontario, where he and a passenger ultimately surrendered.
The chase began at 1:12 p.m. when Monrovia police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver apparently sped away when Monrovia officers approached.
Monrovia police initially pursued the truck, but they backed away when the driver began hitting triple-digit freeway speeds.
The suspect drove east on the 210 Freeway, then turned around in the Rancho Cucamonga area and headed back west, with CHP officers giving chase. On several occasions, the driver exited the freeway, but quickly re-entered.
The driver eventually went south on the Orange (57) Freeway then east on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway. At about 2:15 p.m., he exited at Archibald Avenue near Ontario Airport and pulled to the side of the road.
The driver and a passenger got out of the truck with their hands raised, and both were taken into custody.
