CHP Officer Suffers Minor Injured In High Speed Chase
PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Three suspects were arrested Thursday following an hour-long pursuit that left a California Highway Patrol officer hospitalized.
The pursuit began around 12:45 a.m. after Downey police officers responded to a report of vehicle burglaries, Downey police said.
Three suspects in a van then led authorities and the CHP on a chase on surface streets and the 605 freeway.
As the pursuit entered the downtown area, a CHP officer ended the case around 1:40 a.m. by performing a PIT maneuver at the intersection of Holmes Avenue and East 58th Place.
"The driver will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon for ramming one of our patrol vehicles, fortunately the officers are okay there. He will also be charged with driving a stolen vehicle and a pursuit," the CHP said.
Charges are also anticipated against the remaining two suspects.
During the chase, a CHP cruiser struck a fire hydrant and center divider at Slauson Avenue and Paramount Boulevard, officials said.
The officer suffered minor injuries and was transported to County-USC Medical Center.
