CHP: No Malfunction Found In Pickup Where Driver Claimed His Accelerator Got Stuck
RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — A public information officer for the CHP says no vehicle malfunction was found in the pickup truck that crashed in Rialto last Sunday afternoon with the driver claiming his accelerator got stuck while he was doing 90 mph.
KCAL9's Rachel Kim spoke to Trevor Robben's family on Friday night.
Robben, a 29-year-old Azusa man, remains in critical condition at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with a variety of broken bones including spine and skull.

He said he was doing about 90 mph when the accelerator of his 2000 Nissan Frontier got stuck and his cruise control "will not turn off." He said his car began swerving all over the 210 Freeway. After crashing, the pickup also flipped.
Authorities said Robben was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected from the vehicle. His brother, Griffin Robben, explained that his brother was probably trying to jump out of the vehicle before impact.
A public information officer for the CHP told reporters in a statement, "CHP has performed a vehicle inspection and did not find any mechanical malfunctions which would have caused the collision. Drugs and Alcohol are also not suspected to be a factor. Our investigation is still on going and we can not release any further information in regards to what we believe the cause of the collision is at this time."
