CHP Nabs Speeding Suspect On PCH After He Ends Up On Rims
AZUSA (CBSLA.com) — A chase that lasted for more than an hour ended when the suspect's vehicle was on rims Saturday evening.
The chase started in the Inland Empire about 7:20 p.m. and went from the westbound 60 Freeway in Azusa to the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles. The suspect ultimately went northbound on the PCH.
Around 8 p.m., the suspect was headed into downtown Malibu where authorities said they hoped to set up a spike strip.
The driver is believed to have sideswiped at least two vehicles.
CHP said at one point, the driver pulled up behind a CHP unit on the 60, got out and screamed that his father was trying to kill him before speeding off.
The suspect was apprehended after his car ended up on rims and began to smoke.
The suspect often exceeded 100 mph, authorities said.
The wild pursuit ended in the Port Hueneme area.
At least three patrol vehicles and a helicopter were overhead tracking the suspect.
Officials were concerned with the suspect going fast on the winding and curving PCH.
