Road Rage Suspect Taken Into Custody Following Hour Long Chase
LA PALMA (CBSLA.com) — The CHP chased a road rage suspect on three freeways Sunday before taking him into custody.
The chase began in Santa Fe Springs on or around the 605 Freeway around 6 p.m.
It lasted for about an hour.
During the pursuit he went between 60-70 mph trying to evade authorities. He ran some red lights, as well.
In addition to the 605 and 91, the suspect also went on the 10.
After about 40 minutes, the driver switched to surface streets.
Police believed the suspect was headed back to his residence and reportedly had officers waiting there to arrest him.
Before he could return to his residence in the La Palma area, he stopped.
The suspect pulled into the parking lot of La Palma Intercomunity Hospital. The suspect was ordered out of his vehicle and walked backwards with his hands up.
After being ordered to his knees, the man was taken into custody.
CBS2's Erica Nochlin reported from the scene where CHP officers told her the suspect was a white male in his 20s and a La Palma resident.
She reported that the chase began when another motorist reported that the suspect was following them "too closely" and that that driver felt "endangered."
He told authorities he didn't feel safe pulling over sooner and chose the parking lot of the hospital for that reason.
