Authorities Call Off Search For Car Chase Suspect In Arleta
ARLETA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities have called off a search in the northwest San Fernando Valley for a man who led them on a high-speed car chase Monday evening.
California Highway Patrol officers spotted the suspect speeding at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Claremont, according to CHP Officer Vince Ramirez.
The suspect failed to yield for a traffic stop. He fled, with two passengers, on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, Ramirez said.
Shortly after 5 p.m. the motorist continued driving the burgundy Cadillac SUV, which has illegally tinted front and back windows, into Glendale.
Thirty minutes later, the driver exited the 170 Freeway in Pacoima.
At least three patrol cars were tailing the suspect as he raced through Arleta. DMV records show the vehicle is registered to someone who lives in Arleta.
The suspect stopped twice to let two people out of the vehicle. A woman jumped out first, and, then, a young man wearing a backpack. Officers caught up to the passengers and detained them for questioning.
Shortly before 6 p.m., the suspect exited the car on a residential street and began running through backyards.
Authorities surrounded the area and spent hours searching for the suspect.
By 10 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department reported that the suspect had apparently slipped through their perimeter and called off the search.
The CHP and the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department say the driver, whose name has not yet been released, may also be wanted for narcotics violations, the LAPD reported.
