Chevy Gets Star Power at the LA Auto Show
Chevrolet is riding high at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Celebrating its 100th Birthday, Chevy commands a large presence in the South Pavilion of The Los Angeles Convention Center. A familiar model name, but totally changed vehicle is drawing lots of attention: The all-new 2013 Malibu delivers on the intangibles of the previous generation Malibu but gives customers even more: more style, fuel efficiency, content and features, craftsmanship, and dynamic capabilities rivaling high-end sedans. The exterior design of the all-new Malibu carries DNA from its sister vehicles, the Camaro and Corvette, to bring a sporty sensibility to the family sedan segment.
Be sure to check out The Volt, Chevy's electric vehicle that is popular with Hollywood celebrities. The Volt has a gas tank as back up for those times when you can't plug in. Jay Leno owns one and hosted an event in LA the day before the Auto Show which was attended by Volt owners from all over the country.
Leno has driven his Chevrolet Volt to and from his job as host of "The Tonight Show" daily since taking delivery of his Volt in December. To date, he has traveled more than 10,000 miles using only grid energy and is still on the same tank of gas that was in the car when he brought it home from Rydell Chevrolet in Northridge. Chevrolet recently surveyed Volt owners and found they fill up, on average, once a month, travelling more than 900 miles between gas station visits.
Continuing the fuel efficient line up of Chevy vehicles, the 40-mpg Sonic is on display at the show and is hitting the streets now. They also have the midsize Malibu Eco, with estimated 38-mpg, that will be coming to showrooms soon. Put them all together and it's a full portfolio of fuel-efficient and fun-to-drive cars from Chevrolet.
After being gone from the line up for a few years, Camaro is back in both a coupe and convertible! The 2013 Camaro ZL1 Convertible is the most powerful convertible Chevrolet has ever built. Like the Coupe, the ZL1 convertible features a supercharged 6.2-liter "LSA" engine delivering a heart-pounding 580 horsepower and 556 foot-pounds of torque. That's better than some of the most exotic 2+2 convertible icons available today, including the Aston Martin DB9 Volante and the Porsche 911 Turbo S.
While perusing the Chevrolet offerings at the LA Auto Show, you will want to learn about the latest from OnStar, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors. OnStar is the leading provider of connected safety and security solutions, value-added mobility services and advanced information technology.
Elizabeth Peterson came home from the hospital in a Chevrolet Impala and learned to drive in a Chevrolet Caprice Classic. When she isn't dreaming of her next car, she can be found writing about them on her blog, Traded My BMW For a Minivan.
