Chatsworth Double Murder Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
SAN FERNANDO (CBS) — A man suspected of killing two people whose bodies were discovered in Chatsworth this summer, then opening fire on police as they closed in on him in Encino was arraigned Wednesday.
Brent Zubek, 43, pleaded not guilty to two counts of capital murder in the shooting deaths of 40-year-old John David Lee and Oletta Jean Williams, 28.
The victims' bodies were discovered Aug. 12, in the 204400 block of Lassen Street, according to the District Attorney's Office.
The charges include a special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, which could make Zubek eligible for the death penalty, if convicted.
On Aug. 24, Zubek appeared in court and was charged with eight felonies, including assaults on officers and firearm possession by a felon.
