Chargers Select DB Gilchrist, OLB Mouton
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The San Diego Chargers selected Marcus Gilchrist, a defensive back out of Clemson, on Friday in the second round of the NFL draft.
The player taken with the 50th overall pick is known for his strength and football smarts. Gilchrist played cornerback last season and free safety in 2009 and excelled at both positions.
Gilchrist also has experience at as a returner, which is attractive to the Chargers. Gilchrist had 60 tackles, 10 pass breakups and an interception on defense and averaged 23.7 yards per kickoff return.
The major knock against him is his ability to create turnovers. He only had one interception in his college career.
