Celerity Sirius Charter School Opens In Compton
COMPTON (CBS) — Celerity Educational Group (CEG), a nonprofit organization created in 2005 to serve at-risk children and their families, opened its doors this year to Celerity Sirius Charter School with classrooms located on two campuses in Compton.
One campus is on El Segundo Boulevard, and the other is located approximately three miles away on Rosecrans Avenue.
Students, parents, teachers and administrators joined State Supt. of Instruction Tom Torlakson and Los Angeles County Office of Education Supt. Arturo Delgado Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the Sirius campus on El Segundo Blvd.
The first school exceeded enrollment expectations, so CEG was committed to provide a strong educational program, challenging curriculum and high expectations for all students who wanted to attend.
Members of CEG said Compton Unified School District (CUSD) helped make it happen.
School facilities, which had been shuttered by CUSD due to financial constraints, were provided to CEG for the El Segundo campus.
Officials said the opening of the school shows the collaboration between the community and local education providers.
