Cavaliers Can't Take The Heat, Move To Another Hotel
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Los Angeles hotel accustomed to catering to 7-foot NBA players was still too small for both the Miami Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The two teams – for better or worse, linked indubitably by Lebron James, who left the Cavs for Miami – both happened to be scheduled to play in Los Angeles this week.
The Cavaliers played the Lakers Tuesday, breaking a record for the lowest score allowed by the Lakers at 112-57. The Heat played the Clippers Wednesday night, suffering a surprising loss at 111-105.
But what wasn't on the Staples Center big screen was the score over the hotel.
Visiting NBA teams usually frequent the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills. But when the Cavaliers found themselves sharing the same hotel as their former superstar, the team packed it up and moved several blocks away to the Four Seasons Hotel.
James last summer left his hometown team for Miami, joining Dwayne Wade and buddy Chris Bosh after much speculation about whether the King would stay in Cleveland after becoming a free agent. James' decision to join the Heat wasn't derided so much as his hour-long televised "The Decision," largely agreed to be a slap in the face of Cleveland.
James' tweet after the Cavaliers' humiliating loss to the Lakers may be considered another slap in the team's face.
James wrote: "Crazy. Karma is a b----. Gets you every time. Its not good to wish bad on anybody. God sees everything!"
James and Gilbert have been at odds since the summer, when the superstar decided to join forces in Miami with fellow superstars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. In an interview with The Associated Press in the hours after James' announcement during an hour-long TV special, Gilbert accused James of quitting in the playoffs the past two seasons.
And while both insist they've moved on, James' tweet seems to show he has lingering bitterness toward Gilbert.
The Cavaliers say they decided to move hotels to avoid putting strain on the staff of the Regent Beverly Wilshire. The hotel, however, says it often accommodates two teams at once.
