Caught On Tape: Driver Slams Into Pedestrian And Speeds Away
BUENA PARK (CBS) — Police are looking for a driver who was caught on video running into a pedestrian and then driving away from the scene, according to police.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Campus Drive, Buena Park police reported.
Video from a nearby security camera shows the driver slamming into the pedestrian and then speeding away, leaving him in the street. Police said they believe, by the way the driver swerved into the victim, that he intentionally aimed for the pedestrian.
The impact was so strong that the victim was tossed into the air.
"He flew up in the sky like a rag doll," said Yalinda Robertson, who lives near the scene of the accident.
"The way the car came off of Orangethopre, first it looked like he was going to come down Campus Street, but, then, it looked like he made a quick U-turn when he saw the guy step off the curb," Robertson said.
Paramedics treated the pedestrian for non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.
"He had a little blood coming from his mouth. He had scrapes and bruises on his arms," Robertson said.
The suspect's car was described as a gold, four-door Mitsubishi Galant and likely has damage to the front passenger side windshield, police said. Investigators said that it looked like a woman was sitting in the front passenger seat.
