Caught On Cellphone Video: Suspect, 19, Critically Wounded By Police, Deputy In San Bernardino
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 19-year-old suspect is in critical condition following a deputy-and-officer-involved shooting in San Bernardino.
The shooting involving both agencies took place on 28th Street and Glenview Avenue.
KCAL9's Erica Nochlin reported from the scene.
Authorities said they responded to a call about an armed man who was fighting with a family member blocks from the location.
Officials said he had a gun and they feared for their lives.
Witnesses told Nochlin a different story.
Authorities said the man led them on a chase in his SUV. He crashed the vehicle and police said he got out, started walking away and brandished his weapon.
A San Bernardino Sheriff's deputy and police officer were both involved, officials said.
The suspect was hit by several rounds. At least eight are heard on video of the event.
A witness who didn't want to give his name told Nochlin the 19-year-old was pointing the gun at his own head. He said he never saw the suspect point his gun at officers.
The investigation is now underway into the shooting, police said.
Nochlin was given cellphone video of the suspect being shot by authorities. At the time of the shooting it was unclear if his weapon is raised or in the act of being raised or by his side.
CBS2 froze the video before the man is shown actually being shot.
