Caught On Camera: OC Deputies Have Close Encounter With School Of Sharks
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — The Orange County Sheriff's Department released video footage Wednesday night of a close encounter with a school of sharks.
Harbor Patrol deputies were patrolling offshore in Huntington Beach Monday morning when they spotted a shark swimming just below the surface, officials said.
The deputies then notified local lifeguards and warned stand-up paddleboarders who were nearby.
Later that afternoon, deputies returned to the area and spotted the shark almost immediately.
"OCSD airship Duke was contacted and asked to do a flyby. Upon their arrival, they counted at least six sharks around the fireboat, approximately 5 to 6 feet in length," officials said.
A GoPro camera captured video of the incident.
CBS2/KCAL9 chopper spotted several sharks in the same area in April.
