Cat Rescued From 60 Freeway Overpass
MIRA LOMA (AP) — A 1-year-old black cat that was perilously perched on a freeway overpass just inches from a
200-foot fall is safe and recovering from her ordeal at a Riverside County animal shelter.
Animal Services Officer Gary Pahls found the cat last week sitting atop a concrete barrier overlooking State Highway 60 in the Mira Loma area.
The animal services department says Pahls enlisted the aid of the California Highway Patrol to conduct a traffic stop so he could rescue the stranded cat.
Pahls said he was afraid the cat might dart away when approached, but he said she was very calm and relaxed and seemed thankful that he came to her aid.
Animal services officials say the cat may be pregnant and is being monitored by veterinarians.
The cat has been nicknamed "Mira," short for Mira Loma.
