Car Wash Held To Raise Funeral Expenses For Man Fatally Shot By Former LAPD Officer
DIAMOND BAR (CBSLA.com) — A car wash was held Sunday to raise money for the funeral expenses of a 23-year-old man who was gunned down by a former Los Angeles Police Department officer.
According to the LAPD, Salome Rodriguez Jr., of Ontario, was shot around 3:30 a.m. on March 13, near Third and Main streets, following a fistfight at a bar in Pomona.
Rodriguez later died at a hospital.
Police said former LAPD Probationary Officer Henry Solis, 27, is suspected of pursuing and gunning down Rodriguez while off-duty.
A local arrest warrant for Solis — who authorities say has ties to Juarez, Mexico, but may still be in Texas — was issued Monday.
During an interview with El Paso FBI agents, his father -- Victor Solis -- admitted to dropping his son off at an El Paso bus station on the day of the shooting.
However, he denied knowing his son's whereabouts, according to the affidavit.
Solis was fired from the LAPD on Tuesday, and remains at large.
On Friday, the FBI offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that will lead to his arrest.
The fundraiser began at 8:00 a.m. at the Carl's Junior fast-food restaurant, located in the 100 block of South Diamond Bar Boulevard just off the 60 Freeway.
Family members said Rodriguez and his co-workers met there each morning to eat breakfast together before work.
