Car Plows Into Construction Zone On 91 Freeway
FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Saturday said a driver plowed into a construction zone on the 91 Freeway in Fullerton.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. on the thoroughfare at Lemon Street.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol say the car was headed westbound on the freeway when the driver reportedly lost control, barreling through a Caltrans flashing arrow sign, and then over an embankment.
The car also struck a tree and a fence, officials said.
No injuries were reported to Caltrans workers on scene. The driver didn't sustain serious injuries.
Officials said the accident should serve as a reminder to drivers to slow down. Caltrans reports on its website that 180 employees have been killed on the job since 1924.
"We have a lot of advanced warning signs up before our closures. If you pay attention to them, traffic would flow a lot easier. So it would make it easier on both of us," said Dave Wright of Caltrans.
Investigators do not believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. It's unclear what citation will be issued to the driver, if any.
