4 Dead, 2 Badly Hurt After SUV Flips Off 134 Freeway In Eagle Rock
EAGLE ROCK (CBSLA.com) — Four people have died and two others have been injured in an accident involving a SUV on the Ventura (134) Freeway Sunday, authorities reported.
The crash was reported at 6:55 p.m. on the eastbound 134 at Figueroa Street, in Eagle Rock, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The 1999 Ford Expedition hit a raised asphalt curb and overturned, according to a preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle "continued moving and rolled over the edge of the center divider guardrail and dropped approximately 36 feet onto N. Figueroa Street," the CHP said in a statement.
Two females, ages 38 and 11, as well as the 40-year-old male driver were pronounced dead at the scene, Humphrey said. A 59-year-old man died early Monday morning at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Two females, ages 15 and six, were ejected from the vehicle. They were taken to hospitals in critical condition, Humphrey said. Neither were wearing a seat belt, according to a CHP report.
All the victims were from La Puente, the CHP said.
Officials believe the crash may have been caused when the SUV blew a tire, however it is still under investigation.
