Canoga Park Principal Sentenced To 5 Years For Embezzling $1.4 Million
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A former principal of a Canoga Park charter campus was sentenced Wednesday to five years in state prison for embezzling from the school.
Edward Peter Fiszer, 40, was also ordered to pay more than $1.4 million in restitution.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Judith Champagne immediately imposed the sentence on Fiszer following his guilty plea to an embezzlement count, according to Deputy District Attorney Dan Baker.
Fiszer embezzled more than $1.4 million from NEW Academy Canoga Park between 2008 and 2009 by getting nearly two dozen cashier checks from school accounts. He deposited the checks in an Ameritrade account to trade stocks, authorities said .
He was arrested Oct. 4 in West Windsor, N.J., and brought back to California by Los Angeles police, who investigated the case.
He was named in a grand jury indictment, handed up Sept. 29 and unsealed Oct. 15, that charged him with 31 counts, including embezzlement, forgery and money laundering.
The other 30 counts were dismissed as a result of his plea.
