Canoga Park Man, 64, Ordered To Stand Trial For Murdering Mother And Uncle
VAN NUYS (CBS) — A Canoga Park man was ordered Wednesday to stand trial for the murder of his 87-year-old mother and 85-year-old uncle.
The murder charge against Arthur Reyes Morales, 64, includes the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders, but prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Authorities said Morales was the primary caregiver for his mother, Rita, and uncle Manuel Reyes, who was a double-amputee.
Morales immediately surrendered to Los Angeles police officers as they arrived at the family's home in the 7000 block of Eton Avenue, near Sherman Way, just after 9 a.m. on April 30, 2010.
The two victims were found dead inside the home. Both victims had been bludgeoned.
Morales, who remains jailed without bail, is due back in Van Nuys Superior Court for arraignment on June 1.
