Candlelight Vigil Planned Monday For 11-Year-Old Boy Who Died In Trench Collapse
TEMECULA (CBS) — A candlelight vigil will be held Monday for Anthony Fowler, the 11-year-old Temecula boy who died Thursday as a result of a cave-in on a dry creek's dirt bank.
The public vigil was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on the fields of Ronald Reagan Sports Park, 30875 Rancho Vista Road in Temecula, according to The Press-Enterprise.
Temecula Youth Baseball, a league in which Fowler played, organized the event.
Fowler and a friend were digging into the bank of Long Canyon Creek near the 40000 block of North General Kearny Road in Temecula on Feb. 4 when a trench they were digging caved in, said sheriff's Sgt. Kevin McDonald.
"The child was buried from his head down to his legs," McDonald said.
"The other boy yelled for help and two adults responded and dug out the child while calling 911 for assistance."
Fowler died at 4:56 a.m. Thursday at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. His family donated many of Fowler's organs, according to The Press-Enterprise.
