Man Convicted of Second-Degree Murder in 1995 Caltech Killing
PASADENA (CBSLA) — Jurors on Wednesday convicted a man of second-degree murder in a 1995 shooting at Caltech.
Raul Alcazar Romero, 57, had fled to Mexico shortly after the April 21, 1995, shooting death of Francisco
Mora as the 36-year-old man ate lunch on the Caltech campus in Pasadena with Romero's ex-wife.
Romero was arrested in Jalisco, Mexico, in July 2010, and was extradited to Pasadena in March 2012. He will be sentenced Dec. 17 and faces a maximum of 25 years to life in state prison, Deputy Dist. Atty. Dmitry Brodsky told City News Service.
The Pasadena Superior Court jury deliberated about a day before returning the guilty verdict.
Police said Romero approached Mora while he was sitting by a loading dock having lunch, shot him several times and fled. Romero's ex-wife, who police said also was a Caltech employee, was unharmed.
