Californians Set 3-Day Record For New-State Powerball Sales
SACRAMENTO (CBSLA.com) — Californians set a three-day record for new Powerball members, according to California Lottery officials.
Californians plunked down $8,408,180 million in the period from 6 a.m Monday to close of draw, 7 p.m. Wednesday
No one won the $60 million jackpot Wednesday so the jackpot Saturday is going to rise to an estimated $70 million.
"It's been an incredible first week for the Powerball game in California," Lottery Director Robert T. O'Neill said. "Having last night's draw in California and seeing the excitement it generated was truly amazing. We hope to continue to build momentum for Powerball."
Wednesday's draw was moved to Sacramento's Lottery headquarters from Florida in honor of California's inaugural participation. Future Powerball draws will return to Tallahassee.
Powerball is a $2 multi-state game, played in California and 42 other states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
