Calif. Stimulus Recipient's Staff Untrained

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California's inspector general says a contracting company that received nearly $3 million in federal stimulus money to weatherize homes should stop work because it did not train its employees.

Laura Chick says in a letter to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that there is no assurance that Campesinos Unidos Inc. is doing the work correctly. The company is contracted to weatherize homes of low-income residents in San Diego and Imperial counties.

Chick also recommended that state officials verify that the 38 other recipients of stimulus money to weatherize homes are providing appropriate training and adequately assessing completed work.

Campesinos Unidos director Jose Lopez did not return a phone call. A spokesman for the governor had no immediate comment.
