Calif.'s First-Day Powerball Sales Set New Record

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Powerball is clearly a big hit in the Golden State—it set a new nationwide record for first-day sales.

Californians spent $3.1 million in just 24 hours after tickets went on sale at 6 a.m. Monday.

The figure is double the previous record set when Florida first joined Powerball.

Tickets cost $2 a piece.

Drawings are at 8 p.m. every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Wednesday's jackpot is an estimated $60 million.
