Calif. Health Insurers Get Low Marks For Customer Service
SACRAMENTO (AP) — A California Department of Insurance survey shows most health insurers do a poor job of paying claims and providing customer service to preferred provider organization members.
The new quality report card gives low customer service ratings to Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Health Net Inc., UnitedHealthcare and Cigna Corp. Aetna earned a fair rating.
Most of those insurers got fair marks for the ease and speed with which members see doctors and get medical care. UnitedHealthcare got a good rating.
No insurer got an excellent rating.
California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday that the findings are atrocious and insurers must improve the quality of their healthcare services.
