Cal Poly Pomona Student Linked To Possible TB Case
POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A Cal Poly Pomona student may have tested positive for tuberculosis, school officials said Friday.
Cal Poly Pomona spokesman Justin Velasco did not provide any additional details about the case, but referred to a report posted on the Cal Poly website Thursday that said it was not yet confirmed whether the student had an active case of tuberculosis.
School officials had been notified earlier in the week by Los Angeles County health officials warning that as many as 375 students and 20 faculty may have been exposed to the bacterial infection, according to the report.
Velasco told the school newspaper that they were still awaiting additional test results to confirm the infection.
The student - who reportedly lives off-campus -has withdrawn from classes for the remainder of the quarterly session, and his prognosis is good as he continues to receive treatment, the report stated.
The report comes after an unidentified person at Whittier High School tested positive for the disease in February.
Federal health officials were also called in earlier last month to stop a reported outbreak of a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis in the Skid Row section of downtown Los Angeles .
