Byron Scott Has #11 Retired At Arizona State
(CBS)- Cleveland Cavaliers Head Coach Byron Scott and Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach Lionel Hollins became the second and third ASU Sun Devils to have their jerseys retired at Wells Fargo Arena.
Playing at ASU from 1979-1983, Scott was an All-American and the fourth overall pick in the 1983 draft by San Diego. Scott later won three NBA titles as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Scott always wore No. 11 growing up, even at Inglewood's Morningside High School. The reason... Bob McAdoo, Scott's idol.
Once traded to the Lakers, Scott was forced to change numbers (McAdoo wore No. 11 for LA), he went with No. 4, since he was the fourth overall pick in the draft.
Joe Caldwell's #32 was the only other Sun Devil to have his jersey retired prior to Thursday.
The university has announced plans for Alton Lister and Lafayette Lever to have their jerseys retired and are expected to retire the jerseys of current NBA players, Eddie House, James Harden and Clipper Ike Diogu.
