Burglary Suspect Fatally Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting In Van Nuys
VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a burglary suspect who allegedly stabbed one man and attacked several others was fatally wounded Sunday in an officer-involved shooting in Van Nuys.
The incident played out about 1 p.m. in the 6900 block of Kester Avenue, near Sherman Way, said Mike Lopez of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.
Police said they were responding to a burglary in progress call when they encountered a man with stab wounds.
When they went to help that man, they said they encountered their suspect who was holding a knife, according to CBS2's Jennifer Kastner.
The man holding the knife was shot by police. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later declared dead.
The stabbing victim -- a 50-something man -- was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
No officers were injured in the incident.
Dozens of LAPD personnel were on scene along with a mobile command post.
City News Service also said the suspect bit two other residents and attacked a third with an unknown object. The suspect did not live at the apartment building where all the victims lived but it remains unclear if he knew any of the people he is accused of attacking.
