'Most Brutal Act Of Violence': Cab Driver Fatally Stabbed In Burger King Parking Lot
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A cab driver was fatally stabbed in a Burger King parking lot Friday evening.
Police responded to the fast-food restaurant just before 6:00 p.m. at Grand and Cesar Chavez Avenue in Chinatown.
It was not immediately known what led up to the stabbing, but aerials from SKY2 showed a Yellow Cab Co. vehicle in the vicinity.
Witness Michael Bullard was walking in the direction of the cab said he saw two men exit the vehicle. The passenger almost immediately stabbed the driver, described as a man in his sixties, in the neck at least three times, according to the Bullard.
"It's the most brutal act of violence I've ever seen my whole life," Bullard said.
Bullard said the passenger got back into the vehicle, appeared to grab something, then tried to put the car in reverse, which would have run over the driver.
"He went back in the car, ad it looked like he stole some money," said Bullard. "Then he put it in reverse, I thought he was going to run the guy over, and he got out and took off running."
The suspect, described by the witness as a younger man wearing a black hoodie, then exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
"He ran real fast past our car," said witness April Adams. "And I got a chance to see him but I was like, 'What is he running from?'"
Representatives of the Yellow Cab Co. were later on scene attempting to jump the cab, in hopes that there is a camera inside that might lead them to the suspect.
Homicide detectives were investigating. They are hoping witnesses and security footage can help track down the suspect.
"At this point, we are looking into the video, not just from the cab but from the surrounding businesses and apartment buildings," said Lt. Ryan Rabbett
