NBA Rookie Bryce Dejean-Jones Fatally Shot After Allegedly Breaking Into Dallas Apartment
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old NBA rookie has been fatally shot in Dallas, Texas, police said Saturday.
The shooting unfolded around 3:20 a.m. in an apartment located in the 2500 block of Bennett Avenue, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers located New Orleans Pelicans guard Bryce Dejean-Jones suffering from a gunshot wound outside of the residence.
Paramedics transported Dejean-Jones to a hospital where he later died.
According to police, Dejean-Jones was shot by a resident after he allegedly kicked open the front door of the apartment.
The Pelicans posted the following statement in regards to his passing on Twitter.
The Los Angeles-area native signed a multi-year deal with the Pelicans in February.
On Saturday, his parents took the time to speak with CBS2's Jeff Nguyen.
He previously played college basketball for the University of Southern California.
The investigation is ongoing.
