Bruins Thumped By Middle Tennessee, Fall To 0-2
LOS ANGELES (CBS) -- For the first time since the 2002-03 season , the UCLA Bruins are 0-2 after falling to Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday night, 86-66.
The Blue Raiders were red-hot all night, finishing the game shooting 35-49 (71%), including 10-11 from three-point range.
Meanwhile, the Bruins couldn't hit from deep, shooting 4-20 from behind the line.
Ben Howland said after the game, " That's an NCAA tournament team we played tonight, they played really tough. "
UCLA was playing without power forward Reeves Nelson, who has been suspended indefinitely, they were led by Josh Smith with 15 points off the bench.
The Bruins will head to Maui to face Chaminade on Monday in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.
UCLA hasn't started the season 0-3 since the 1940-41 season, when they started 0-8.
