Brown, Whitman In Virtual Tie For Calif. Governor
SACRAMENTO (AP) — A new poll shows the two major candidates for California governor in a dead heat leading up to the November election.
The Field Poll released Thursday shows Democrat Jerry Brown and Republican Meg Whitman each with support from 41 percent of likely voters. Meanwhile, 18 percent of likely voters are undecided or not
inclined to vote for either candidate.

Men, women, whites, Hispanics and independent voters all are divided about evenly between Brown and Whitman.
The poll also shows Whitman with slightly more support in Los Angeles County, which is a traditional Democratic stronghold. Brown is strongest in the San Francisco Bay area.
The poll surveyed 857 registered voters from Sept. 14 to Sept. 1 and has a margin of error of 4.1 percentage points.
