Gov. Jerry Brown Declares State Of Emergency In Response To Tanker Truck Fire
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency Tuesday in response to the fiery tanker truck accident that forced the closure of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Montebello.
"It is hereby ordered that all agencies of the state government utilize and employ state personnel, equipment and facilities for the performance of any and all activities consistent with the direction of the California
Emergency Management Agency and the State Emergency Plan," Brown's declaration stated.
Crews have been working overnight since the crash to demolish the Paramount Boulevard bridge.
Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., westbound traffic is being diverted at San Gabriel Boulevard and allowed to return to the freeway at Markland Drive, while eastbound traffic from Wilcox Avenue to San Gabriel Boulevard is restricted to one lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Brown's declaration of a state of emergency instructs Caltrans to make a formal request for immediate assistance through the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Relief Program to obtain federal funds for highway repairs or reconstruction.
