Britney Spears To Remain Under Conservatorship
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A judge says that Britney Spears will remain under a court-imposed conservatorship for now, after a closed-door meeting with her and her father.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva A. Goetz says she had a "very nice conversation" with Spears in chambers, but did not elaborate on what they discussed or on whether the conservatorship might end soon.
Lawyers for the singer and her father, Jamie Spears, declined to comment after the hearing.
Spears arrived at the downtown courthouse about 9 a.m. through a side door and left the same way less than an hour later. However, Goetz continued talking in chambers with the lawyers after the singer departed.
Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet are co-conservators of the pop star's estate. The conservatorship was established after the singer exhibited bizarre behavior in early 2008, but last year she went on a concert tour and her lawyers have said her mental health has improved dramatically.
The judge's announcement means her father and Wallet will remain in control of Spears' finances.
