On-ramps and transition roads closed around 7 p.m. with full closure of the southbound lanes between the 101 Freeway and Getty Center Drive expected by midnight.

The freeway was shut down until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Sepulveda Boulevard will be open as an alternate during the closure.

The work is part of the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Improvements Project, which will add a 10-mile HOV lane, replace bridges, realign on and off-ramps and widen underpasses.

Some commuters said their patience is wearing thin.

"I don't know how much longer. I've been working here for four years now and that's been going on since. I don't know when it's going to end," said Wilmington resident Teresa Parades.

Brentwood resident Jamie Bobshow said, "There's always traffic no matter what…and then having to deal with lane closures is frustrating for everybody."

Not all locals, however, are annoyed with the closure.

Lisa Reed, a Sherman Oaks resident, said, "They gotta close it down to get it done, right? It's a burden, but it's more of a burden not to have it."
