Boy Scouts Of America Expected To Ratify Ban On Gay Leaders
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Members of the Boy Scouts of America are expected to ratify a longstanding ban on Monday that has prevented gay adult leaders from participating in the organization.
In 2000, the Supreme Court ruled boy scouts could fire gay leaders, which subsequently caused corporate sponsors to leave the organization.
Membership also declined as a result of the movement.
About three years ago, gay boy scouts were granted permission to participate, however, gay leaders remained banned from the organization.
Earlier this month, an executive committee unanimously voted to end the ban.
