Boy, 13, Delivers Toys To Sick Children At Northridge Hospital
NORTHRIDGE (CBSLA.com) — Adam Jacobsen is just 13 years old, but that hasn't stopped him from doing what he can to make a difference in a lot of lives.
Adam's project had an innocuous start – as part of his bar mitzvah, he had to come up with a way to help the community.
After his sister spent many weeks in the hospital with a rare blood disorder, he was inspired – giving out toys to sick children at Dignity Health Northridge Hospital seemed like a natural fit.
"I wanted to make a kid smile, so it feels good knowing that I made a kid happy," Adam said.
The 13-year-old raised funds to buy more than 100 toys for hospitalized children.
"When he started talking about the project, I got emotional," Adam's mother, Jodi Jacobsen, said. "When I told my friends about it, I got emotional. The first time he delivered a few months ago, I was a mess. I'm just really proud of him, he's just a good kid."
The Jacobsen family says the response from the community, donating toys for Adam to give out, has been extraordinary. And hospital staff says Adam's donations are the largest they've ever received and the kids are extremely grateful.
Adam says he plans on continuing his project by collecting enough Christmas presents for 300 children.
