Box Office Attendance Reaches 16-Year Low
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The Hollywood Reporter says box office attendance is at a 16-year low.
An estimated 1.28 billion people went to the movies in 2011, which is the lowest number since 1995.
However, the year's most successful film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part II, earned more than $1 billion. Part I of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn has so far grossed more than $650 million.
The National Association of Theater Owners says 2002 was the busiest year for theaters, with 1.57 billion moviegoers.
